There simply is no "right" logo.<br>
The osm logo is like a general idea, that can be changed slightly.<br>
There is the logo used on the website and the wiki, but even that
changed in the past, because somebody proposed a new version that
others liked.<br>

About your suggestion about AI:<br>
I personally would prefer Inkscape before AI - not only as it's free
software, but also as it produces a free, standardized output format
- SVG.<br>
I would even use Inkscape for Banners etc. myself ;) but others may
like the AI file. If you want, you could upload that to the wiki
page about the logo?<br>
