I just looked up a couple of US cities in a (US) encyclopaedia I
have, and all references to specific highways had the 'generic' part
of the name spelled out in full, e.g. 'Pennsylvania Avenue', '42nd
Street'. Interesting that it was '42nd' and not 'Forty-second'
though.<br>
