<br>
a propos some recent issues that bubbled up to DWG I would
like to<br>
remind everyone that if you use an editor that supports some
sort of<br>
automated "problem fixing" or "tag upgrading" or something,
unless this<br>
is strictly limited to objects you have edited yourself, the
use of such<br>
a function is considered an automated/mechanical edit.<br>
<br>
If you plan to do this, you will have to follow the guidelines
outlined<br>
in <a
href="https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Automated_Edits_code_of_conduct"
rel="noreferrer" target="_blank" moz-do-not-send="true">https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Automated_Edits_code_of_conduct</a><br>
which among other things means that you are expected to
discuss your<br>
plans (including exactly which set of rules will be applied to
the data)<br>
with the community before you act.<br>
<br>
The automated "fixing" in editors is intended to help mappers
contribute<br>
correct data; it must not blindly be applied to data created
by others.<br>
<br>
The fact that some "automatic fixing" options have been built
into some<br>
editors does *not* mean that the community has given blanket
approval<br>
for these rules to be automatically applied without the
case-by-case<br>
discussion required by the automated edit guideliens.<br>
<br>
