I think a major problem in getting a company to adopt/adapt to OSM
is that there are usually two companies to deal with:
The company that wants a map based website (customer) and the
company employed to design the website.

As in your case there's already a working map. Once the customer has
a finished website they're reluctant to go back to the web designers
for an update as it'll almost certainly incur time & costs.

I've even come across one routing case which used OSM but had been
programmed poorly by the web designers. The customer was amending
OSM with false data because, it appeared, they were too scared to
ask their designer to amend their code.

If OSM want to encourage use of the database and/or base map, it
needs to focus promotion towards the web designers who can then
recommend it to their clients, *before* a website is created.
question arises from my need to use a car sharing service. Their
web site displays a zoomable google map but there wasn't really
enough detail to see exactly where the car station was. It was in
OpenStreetMap and OSMand allows searching for them, shows and
quite happily calculated a route to it.
However the standard OSM web site doesn't show car sharing
locations and I'm not certain how much load it would put on the
servers anyway.
So we have a great database or map but how can a commercial
company make use of it?
