<p>As I know  most of the OSM tools ( <a href="https://github.com/mapnik/mapnik/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93&q=wkb&type=Code">mapnik</a> , <a href="https://github.com/openstreetmap/osm2pgsql/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93&q=wkb">osm2pgsql</a> )  using <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Well-known_text#Well-known_binary">WKB binary format</a>  based on  " double-precision floating-point format (double)" and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double-precision_floating-point_format">"This gives 15–17 significant decimal digits precision."</a></p>
