<p dir="auto">Thanks, joto, I will read through the documentation to get more familiar with this.  Originally, I was running the docker import script without the additional "-e" parameters and had the problem.  I've been able to import regions like North America without a problem using the basic docker script.  That said, most desktop PC's don't have 64G RAM, as is recommended in the osm2pgsql manual for importing the planet file.  The problem, based on the error comes when osm2pgsql is parsing/uncompressing the .pbf file.  Since hard drive storage is much easier to obtain these days.  Is there any way to have a script that uncompresses the .pbf file onto, say a 1 or 2 TB disk and then loads the data into postgresql instead of requiring 64G of memory?  I realize I'm speaking without familiarity of how the program works and why the high RAM usage is necessary.  So, in the meantime, I'm trying again by increasing the swap space to well over 64G to see if that helps.</p>
<p dir="auto">If that doesn't work, and I want the equivalent of the entire planet in my database, should I just import data, region by region?</p>
