Hey folks. Some of you may remember me posting here back in April on
Hermes, an accessible GPS navigation app I've been working on for a bit
over a year. You can read my sporatic series of blog posts on the
subject at http://thewordnerd.info/tags/hermes.

Just because I've not posted here doesn't mean that I'm not actively
developing. :) In late April, I started working on a web service that
makes available much of the same information provided by the
browser-based interface. Then in mid June, I started developing an
Android app to connect to that service. Three months later, I actually
have something that I'm starting to use on a regular basis, and am
starting to prefer to my commercial accessible GPS.

I don't have anything ready to release yet, mainly because this
incarnation is client-server and the server requires lots of resources
for a planet-wide import, but I thought that I'd post my project site
for folks who may be interested in tracking progress. Find it here:

I'm calling this a soft launch and haven't even blogged about it. I
fairly recently decided to switch from Git to Fossil
(http://fossil-scm.org), an interesting VCS that performs well and also
offers distributed project management. Seemed fitting for a project
aimed at increasing mobility to adopt mobile and distributed development
practices. :) But I'm not sure if I'll ultimately stick with Fossil or
switch back to Git, so I'm holding off on blogging and advertising heavily.

Feel free to check it out, and if contributing seems interesting but the
thought of a new VCS doesn't, know that Fossil is a self-contained
executable less than a meg in size available for Windows, Linux and OS X. :)
