Here's some info from work i did a few years ago with tactile mapping and tactile map fabrication approaches
https://guides.hsl.virginia.edu/blogs/it-services-blog/zoombites/tactile-map-design-in-the-library
tldr = you can user laser etchers to fabricate maps quickly and affordably
https://www.touch-mapper.org/en/
is helpful for some scale but you may need to learn a bit more about GIS tools generally (recommend qgis) and laser cutting generally to get a product you like

Hi David, thanks for the link. There is lots of info on it although nothing
jumps out at me as being what I'm after. It does seem a little old too as
many of the dates are quite a few years in the past. But I shall take
another look and follow up on anything that looks promising.
Best, Chris

Hi!
I have not found any non-visual maps or any working groups within OSM, but
believe there must be. This mailing list appears not to be very active.
However, you may find the following link helpful.
OSM for the blind - OpenStreetMap Wiki

Hi, I've just subscribed to this mailing list and the strap lines for this
mailing list include the line:
Concerning visual impairments it is also the aim to provide non visual maps
. with OSM data.
Are there any such non-visual maps based on OSM data available?
My interest, initially, is in atlas like information such as countries, what
they border, major cities, islands but there is much more I'd like to
progress on to.
Best, Chris
