I can try.  As a start, this is related to the fact that I prefer to
work with software that is freely available, and resist the urge to
use software with licenses limiting distribution and use of modified
version.  Second, I sometimes work on machines were the SUN Java
implementation is unavailable, and sometimes work on machines were the
installed Java version is not the latest one (typically because it is
used by a stable production system, and upgrading is out of the
question).

Because of this, I mostly work with java programs capable of running
with one of the freely available Java VMs, and none of them have java
1.5 support at the moment.
