Testing mapnik with "natural" seems to work fine. I'm looking forward to
seeing this in the osm2pgsql. 

Did you see my patch to osm2pgsql.c in
http://trac.openstreetmap.org/attachment/ticket/319/osm2pgsql.patch ?
I'd appreciate you taking a look at it if you get a chance.
