But running this one piece of proprietary software is so _convenient_... 
Surely you don't care about free software enough to miss-out on the benefits 
of editing OSM?

* add multiverse to the apt-sources list
* install Sun's latest copy of java
* click-through a few license agreements
* revel in the usefulness of JOSM, with only a few regrets at running a 
non-free computer
