[OSM-dev] cache curious

Hi All.

I am curious to know how the map viewer cache is refreshed.

I'd like to use this link to follow my own progress through a particular
area of south-western England:
http://www.openstreetmap.org/index.html?lat=50.4&lon=-4.94&zoom=11

The wiki FAQ* states that the cache is refreshed every 48 hours but it is
possible to manually refresh an individual tile at any time. A manual
refresh has sometimes worked as suggested by the wiki, but often returns the
unmapped tile. When a manual refresh has worked, its been a matter of time
before those tiles have reverted to unmapped images (as at time of writing).

I know that the London mapping, for example, shows up at a similar zoom
level:
http://www.openstreetmap.org/index.html?lat=51.52&lon=-0.1&zoom=11

Is the difference to do with turning line segments to ways? (Most of my
line segments were added at least a week ago - but few are yet added to
ways.) Or cache is now set to refresh at a different rate to that suggested
by the wiki? (Obviously most of the London data has existed for far longer
than my Cornish entries.) Or something else altogether?

Whatever the reason, its not a big deal to me - just a curiosity. Many
thanks for any insight.

Cheers,

Dave
