Sorry, forgot to say, to see the POI icons you'll need to get all the icons 
from OSM SVN at:

http://svn.openstreetmap.org/map-icons/nickw/

and place them in a new subdirectory 'nodes' of the 'images' directory of the 
JOSM source archive.
