They are rendered at level 8 in Mapnik, and so they should!
Stations aren't shown until level 12, which isn't good enough when you  
are trying to find the nearest station in an area.
And then it is level 14 for the station names.

Maybe I'm just a cyclist who uses public transport too much and don't  
care about the motorways since that are useless to me.

Maybe it is time for the cycle map to be on the main osm site since it  
is more useful to me.
