I've made a map of the whole of the UK with mkgmap, but it doesn't work
with my GPS although it displays fine in QLandkarte.  So there is either a
real limit there, or else something more to be learnt about the format.

An area enclosing the M25 -- 51M of uncompressed .osm -- works without
a problem though.
