This is concerning Windows.

For Unix Systems I have a separate (debian)-package for the map-icons. The 
debian package is already working. Currently you can find it at 
www.gpsdrive.de:
	deb     http://www.gpsdrive.de/debian etch main
The File is:
http://www.gpsdrive.de/debian/pool/main/gpsdrive-data-map-icons_2.10svn14573455_i386.deb
And following.
I will rename it some day, but for now it should work.
