[OSM-dev] Read-only db on dev

Lots of clever people are making plans for replication etc. and I have  
no doubt we'll get something impressive one day.

A brief "right now" idea, though:

Could we set up a cron job to copy across the db (or, at least, the  
current tables) to dev.osm.org every day, and give all dev users  
read-only access to this?

It would make dev really useful for hacking together uses of OSM data,  
without the need for everyone to mess around with unpacking planet.osm  
into their own dev dbs. Someone could even set up a shadow API for  
people who only want to read the data.
