Thanks for your prompt feedback.
Looks like it will only work with the latest JOSM-latest.jar after all, not the standard releases.
Also, I have just found a bug. In certain circumstances, as the way changes direction, the new way can jump over to the wrong side of the starting way. It looks like it happens if the starting way slope changes from negative to positive accross the horizontal. Looking into it now.
