Inkscape sucks at handling badly encoded strings. most of the time these
crashes are UTF8 issues, that for some reason are not caught by the
sanity check in tilesGen.pl

Unfortunately the "emergency save" overwrites the svg with what inkscape
deems "correct" data, so you can't use the svg for bug reports or
general analysis anymore.
