[OSM-dev] The server today

This morning the server returned HTTP error 500 a little more 
often than before, but between this it was also responding faster 
than before.  It appears as if the it is faster to "give up and 
die", making it more agile -- a lean and mean machine.  The change 
seems to have occurred at 02:00 BST (01:00 GMT) this night.

At noon BST (11:00 GMT), something went wrong.  Memory usage went 
up through the roof, load average is 4.0 and the API server 
doesn't respond at all.  It was a sudden change and no gradual 
degradation.  The sad state has been stable for the last 4 hours.

Munin's memory usage graph is the best way to get an idea of what 
and how the server is doing,
