While working through the trac tickets, I noticed a couple of tickets
that mention broken mapnik rendering when it really should work:
e.g. there is a rule for landuse=industrial but it's not painted. Also
someone complained that natural=wood doesn't render anymore now when it
used to.
There *is* a natural=wood rule, and when I discovered that it is
physically close to the landuse=industrial (in the file) I became
suspicious. A couple of rules above somebody seems to have commented out
a rule like that:
<!--Rule>
<Filter>[leisure] = 'pitch'</Filter>
<MaxScaleDenominator>1000000</MaxScaleDenominator>
<PolygonSymbolizer>
<CssParameter name="fill">#7ccd7c</CssParameter>
</PolygonSymbolizer>
</Rule-->
This should theoretically be ok, I think, but it might also break the
things mentioned. Could you, or somebody who actually can render mapnik
(haven't installed all dependencies here) try if removing that commented
out thing helps? A simple test might be the wedge of forest which shows
in osmarender, but not mapnik:

Thanks in advance.

BTW, that file osm.xml seems quite chaotic. e.g all landuses including
cemeteries are clustered under the leisure style :-). That would be a
nice task for someone willing to spend some time.
