Would anyone be interested in setting up and/or using a VMWare player
Debian image for developing OSM with? It would need to have MySQL,
Rails, PostGIS, all the T at H stuff, mapnik etc. and all their
prerequisites installed and running on bootup. It would need some
scripts to download the latest planet or an extract of it and insert it
into a local database, and howtos.

Musicbrainz has a similar system already:
http://wiki.musicbrainz.org/VirtualMusicBrainzServer

I think this is a much better system than having a dev server that
people can apply for accounts on.

* Everyone has their own server, so it won't get overloaded by other
peoples work.
* It's more scalable - more cpus are added as more users need them
* There are no security issues - people can't overwrite other people's work.
* There's no bottlenecks with administrators having to install new stuff
- - people can install whatever as they all have the root password.

A nice extra might be a little script to take the output of svn diff,
add a comment and pipe it to trac for an administrator to examine and apply.
