I wasn't thinking about a full distributed Mapnik rendering system here.

My idea for TileGen here was along the lines of;

1) Give TileGen access to the postgresql and mysql databases on tile.
2) Have tilegen, run a loop rendering dirty flagged tiles.
3) Profit :-)

I'm game, unless someone else more competent volunteers.
