[OSM-dev] API for local Postgis installs?

Well there was an API PostGIS branch once which was never completed but 
you could of course work on that, then run the normal API on you 
PostGIS, and use Chris Schmidt's stuff which he recently demonstrated 
(where you could even get the full object history).

Anything wrong/unsuitable about the existing API calls? Seems to me that 
the more compatible your solution is, the more benefit for all.
