Hello Martijn,
what about an automatic polygon-reduction (using a defined maximum
deviation) and some optional attribute on nodes like
"remove_above_lod=5" (or "lod=5") to help it in areas where is does
not provide good result. We already have such hints for the map-
rendering where street-names are not to be rendered or rendered in
the opposide direction.
This way we can easily store multiple levels of detail in the
same map.
I'm sitting on the same problem reducing the complexity
of ways, areas and coastlines for low zoom-levels in interactive
rendering for Traveling Salesman.
