[OSM-dev] "Map Features" in XML?

Are you familiar with the presets that JOSM uses? They are entirely 
controlled through an XML file. You should really have a look at it, it 
is quite flexible already, and people can create their own presets (e.g. 
special thematic stuff) although this is rarely used. There's even a new 
cool way of making them multi-lingual.

Here is the big default presets file:

I think it speaks for itself (at least if speaking to a programmer). 
Maybe you could think about supporting this format, *or* we could come 
up with something different that is then supported by both editors.
