This isn't helped by the licence (yes, that old chestnut), and posts
like

don't show us as being willing to work with anyone else on this matter.
"We"'ve made it pretty clear in the past that we're not going to allow
google to use our mapping data unless they give everyone all of theirs. Making
their own solution is a good idea, it injects competition into the
market, you can now choose how you want your data locked up, in our
licence that doesn't allow companies to use it, or google's which only
allows them to use it.

I'm sure we'll get some good inspiration from how they implement the
editors and any API, and this will filter down to improve our tools.
