You know what the research goal is for MonetDB? A DBA-less envirionment.

So in their philosophy you would never ever have to tune your database 
yourself, because a smart database should do this by itself.

Look at the DVDshop benchmark ;) Same page, menu left, independent 
testing group.

And you might be interested how many people run out of the box settings 
on their database. But please take a peak in a MonetDB configuration, 
and see what you can configure with respect to tuning. *zero*
