No, not really. MM office primarily serves as a locked-in gpsbabel: fetches 
the data from the unit (*.mmj files), then does differential correction and 
outputs "GIS-friendly" formats (shapefiles, but not gpx, alas). BTW, I'm 
talking about an old *Thales* MobileMapper, before the company was bought by 
Magellan.

This thingie has a basemap.img file, which I still have to reverse-engineer to 
see if the format is compatible with something known. MM office doesn't care 
about that file, nor it is able to read/write it.

I'll be trying a couple of things with that unit this weekend, anyway.
