On the hardware side, a 2-year-old single-core computer with 300 Gb of free 
disk space will be able to process a planet in maybe 12 hours. You'll have to 
pump up the hardware if you plan to support lots of concurrent users.

On the software side, everything is in the SVN repository (besides PostgreSQL 
and Ruby, which are widely available).
