[OSM-dev] Another mapnik style sheet question

I don't know if this is relevant, but the US Interstate Relations have adopted an optional convention of putting a the Wikimedia SVG image URL in the symbol tag.

  However, this is not part of the formal definition of relation:route

http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Relation:route

 which describes symbol as "Describes the symbol that is used to mark the way along the route, e.g., "Red cross on white ground" for the "Frankenweg" in Franconia, Germany ".

  Of course, general purpose solutions that apply everywhere are preferred.

For future reference, the Mapnik folks are  working diligently on a SVG-based symbolizer that would make shields like this very easy. It's not ready yet, but keep it in mind for the future.
