Hey Girls and Boys
To see the growing map is very exciting.
It's even more cool to see the improvements in the own city
and know who is the editing hero.
My hero of the last week is the user "skunk".
He did many street numbers nearby.
I should send him good feeling.
Normal viewers of the map see that the map is better this year than last
year.
Sometimes viewers see that the map WAS better last month.
The "chronik" at the main page is cool.
It gave me lots of inspirations.
I try to make feedback process better.
Feedback
=======
Some users make a really good job .
Some beginners make mistakes.
Both are happy about feedback.
Programming tools
============
I try to make tools for direct feedback.
Calling the changesets API seams to be very hard for the OSM API.
Here I do it:
http://www.khtml.org/osm/v0.47/extended.html
(internet explorer not supported)
You can zoom in (mousewheel) to your area, click "load chanegesets" and
wait.
It's very hard for the DB (server) and also the Browser (client) to do that.
Maybe there is an other tool that gives you that information - but I
don't know one.
At the moment the server and client load is too high to give this tool
to the mass.
The client has lots of potential to improve.
But improving the client and win lots of users would result in heavy db
load.
The OSM API maybe can't handle the load.
The administrators are responsible for normal operation and maybe will
block my service.
A db mirror would not help. The changesets API is slow.
I'm the client developer.
If you are the db or server expert please feel informed about needs.
Bernhard
PS: If zooming does not work well, please give feedback at:
http://www.khtml.org/osm/v0.47/config/
The map lib is open source and I can't hire paid testers.
