He used "we=osm" in one part of his message and "we=student group" in
the other part.
The student group has manpower and no money, and OSM, he believes, has
money.
I think there are two issues mixed up here. If OSM can spend money to
make it easier for developers to try out new things, build cool
OSM-related projects, get more people to invest their brainpower in OSM
even if they don't have huge servers at their disposal - that's great
and we should make every effort to support that ("if possible"). OSMF
operates a well-equipped dev server and several national OSM communities
have set up their own dev servers.
This doesn't mean however that we should necessarily deploy a lot of
resources to "production" services for the end users. It's the eternal
discussion but personally I'm fine with Mapquest doing routing or search
on OSM data if their terms are sufficiently open (as I believe they are)
- why do we need to use our resources for that then?
