No, I don't have any benchmarks. But rendering an image of Europe with all highways took more than 5 minutes with osm2pgsql and the default osm styling and around 5-10 seconds with imposm and a custom styling. It was a huge difference, but it was not only due to the generalized tables.

But you can make tests on your own. With the default styling you get three tables with different generalization (osm_roads, osm_roads_gen0 and _gen1).
