Good aspect Sven, bus as you say, it would be nesessary to send out 
bigger chunks (say per country) but how can we easily keep them up to 
date at the clients?

IMHO you miss one aspect, that is currently we only offer 4 map styles, 
but as we know, there could be done a lot more (specific to activity 
(hiking, riding by car, emergency), by country map style (US, DE, ...), 
by country name label space (US, DE, ...). Of course I have no concept 
but we might even think about a distributed filtering API, to make it 
possible for everyone to request world wide POI-maps?
