Hi! GPX Planet extracts are nearly ready:
http://zverik.osm.rambler.ru/gps/files/extracts/index.html

Extracts for Germany regions are still being processed, I hope to
upload them by tomorrow morning (Thursday in the worst case). All other
files are complete. You can use those extracts of manageable size or cut
them even more (e.g. just your city) with filter-gpx.pl from
https://github.com/Zverik/gpxplanet-tools

If you are going to calculate statistics on those files, be warned that
when a user had uploaded their traces in an gz/bz2 archive, it was made
into a single trace in the database, and therefore in this dump. So a
single gpx in a GPX planet doesn't mean a single source gpx.

There are a lot of uses for this trace array, including generation of a
tile layer for use in editors and preparing printable city maps of those
traces, like Steve did for his kickstarter (though not with OSM data).
Or maybe one can visualize a fleet of mappers collecting traces through
the last 7 years. Not to mention academic possibilites. There is
probably no larger open dataset of collected GPS points, and it would be
quite unfortunate to leave it unprocessed.

Thanks,
IZ
