[OSM-dev] Why is ford=yes not rendered in the default style?

Hi all,

I know we should not map for the renderer, but why is 
the deprecated and rarely used highway=ford
rendered with a nice icon on https://www.openstreetmap.org
while the much more often and documented 
ford=yes is not ?
