Welcome!
I don't think that anyone's going to "assign you a task" - it's about
you suggesting what you might be interested in doing, and what someone
is interested in moderating, for next year.
There’s quite a lot of information in the OSM wiki at
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Google_Summer_of_Code . Obviously
that’s “up to last year” (there is no information there about 2023 yet).
What I would suggest is that you try and find out a bit more about
OpenStreetMap as a project.
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Google_Summer_of_Code/Processes#Student_application_phase
suggests "Students ... should familiarise themselves with OSM by
creating an account and improving the map by making some edits in their
local area", and I think that that is a good suggestion - you'll get to
work with the data that is part of the project, use the editors that
mappers use to edit that data, and see the results appear on maps made
from that data.
Someone's created a thread over at the community forum
https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/google-summer-of-code-2023/6568 -
if you have any questions (such as "where is tool xyz developed" or
"what is there that also does abc") you can ask there, or here.
Best Regards,
Andy
