Hi all,

with the new year comes a new instalment of Google Summer of Code.
Once more we'd like to participate as OpenStreetMap organisation.

We are now looking for open source projects in the OSM ecosystem who
would like to host a GSOC contributor. GSOC is a good opportunity
to attract new developers who will spend the summer coding that thing
from your TODO list that you never got around doing. (And maybe they
stick around.)

Please note that Google has changed the participation rules this year:
now anybody over 18 can participate, although they usually should be new
to open source coding. Projects can come in short (175h) and in
long (350h) form (needs to be clarified in the project idea.
The coding period is longer, so that participants
are more flexible wrt other engagements. To make sure that all that
flexibility doesn't end in utter chaos, we will require candidates to
submit a project plan which fixes the working periods.

If you are interested, please add project ideas in the wiki:

https://wiki.osm.org/Google_Summer_of_Code/2022/Project_ideas

Please also add ideas for a project you maintain but where
you don't really feel that you have the time or energy to mentor the
project yourself. We will try to help you find a suitable mentor.

If you want to add an idea for a project where you are not a maintainer,
it would be helpful if you discuss the idea with the project maintainers
first. We want to give the projects the best chance for success and
maintainer buy-in is essential for that.
