I'm sure there will be a 64 bit version available to upgrade to before
it becomes an issue.

I'm not sure I've understand you.  util.index.php just runs lots of
updates on the database to cause it to index.  The only advantage over
running the queries directly is that util.index.php avoids some
locking issues.
