Hi Deepayan,

welcome to Google Summer of Code. We do prefer email for the initial
communication.

There are a few general first steps for potential contributors: first
get to know the project you want to work on. Set up the development
environment, get it to compile and run, mke a few changes to the code
and see what they do. Next do a bit of background research on the
project idea that interests you. Use the description as a base and see
what you can find out. Then get in touch with the mentor and ask about
the specifics of the project you need for the project proposal. As a
general rule, the more targeted your questions are, the easier it is for
your mentor to engage with you.

For the mendatory programming part, please have a look at the issue
trackers for the projects. There are usually issues marked as suiable
for beginners. For Nominatim this would be
