[Historic] CartoDB Torque for mapping temporal data

Just received an interesting marketing mail about Vizzuality/CartoDB's Torque, which helps map temporal time series using data cubes & html5.
I don't know a ton about it, and not sure how helpful it might be for making lots of changes to a base map vs. plotting data series, but it looks like they've been thinking a bit about rendering issues.
