Hi all (Albin! ; ) ) -
I've started putting up some sample data for filter testing (see below).
I've probably broken about 100 rules of OSM data management along the way,
but wanted to see if we could have some additional test cases beyond Black
Rock City.
I've started with the change from the District of Maine (was part of
Massachusetts prior to 1820) to the State of Maine.
I'm also working on a progression of the building of Alcatraz, but that may
take a little longer. Fun with QGIS and JOSM today...
If anyone has any advice on tagging please let me know. Just this simple
case has pointed out many interesting nuances about parts of things that
change over time & how that impacts how that thing should be tagged. Or, if
1 part of a state's border changes, how do we track that? Or, should we be
citing sources for almost every tag? Vector tiles, anyone?
(For those who don't know, the OSM toolchain doesn't render state borders
based on OSM data at higher zoom levels. IIRC, it uses some polygons that
are generated from NED data in a separate process. So... these borders
won't show up at what would normally be country/state-viewing friendly zoom
levels)
Thanks,
Jeff
