Hi all -
We had another solid meeting today. Here are some quick updates:
- Launch date
-- Moved targeted launch for OHM with time slider and updated OSM stack
to *1 July*.
-- This will give us time to clarify the best approach for serving
raster-based tiles (see below)
- MVP feature dev
-- Work continues on integrated time slider
-- Prototype ready for review on dev server in 1-2 weeks
-- Will publish link to prototype when ready to historic@
-- Low-zoom level border development is next in dev queue after
timeslider effort
-- Raster API approach:
--- Meyer to publish an outline of the possible API plan for comment
so we can get better clarity on what this might look like
-- More info: https://github.com/orgs/OpenHistoricalMap/projects/1
- Meyer to also publish draft marketing plan for review to @historic
-- Will need assistance in brainstorming ideas & apporach
- Hosting
-- Rob, Bert, and Seth are discussing how to best use existing hosting
server + Azure credits; still figuring out how to best use
-- Existing server is Quad Core Xeon w/8 GB to spare & very low
utilization, but slow tile rendering; attached disk array is 22TB RAID 1
with hot backups
-- Azure credits are $150 / mo
-- AWS budget - not done yet, but should be ready today or tomorrow
--- This is for proposed option of moving to AWS-based hosting and
deployment
-- Need to add management plan to operating details
*- Next meetings:* 1 May (in 1 week) & 15 May (in 3 weeks)
-- Meyer to send out separate meeting notification emails
*Attendees:*
- Meyer, Sanjay, Dan, Seth
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Jeff
