Hi all -
We covered a lot of ground in a quick meeting today.
2 asks for the community:
- Consider joining the OSM US Slack group
- Take a look at the notes on the Inspector below - I'd love to get your
thoughts!
*Notes*
- *Production status* - Rob Warren is working on a review of the code for
the prototype site and has knocked out quite a few outstanding issues
lately. No eta yet, but we're making progress.
- *SotM updates* - provided a rundown of OHM activity at SotM US and SotM
in Heidelberg. Special thanks to Sanjay Bhangar, who led a Birds of a
Feather session on OHM in Germany.
- Other conferences - Tim Watters is headed to a conference in Kosovo &
I'll be attending the European Time Machine conference next month.
- *Time formats* - discussed the need of augmenting our strict start_date=*
and end_date=* where *=YYYY-MM-DD formatting with additional, softer dates.
Stephan Bösch-Plepelits described both the problem and identified a
possible solution in this thread
<https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/historic/2019-September/001283.html>.
In addition, it appears that the ISO 8601 standard appears to have been
updated <https://www.iso.org/standard/70908.html> (!) which we learned
about through some recent updates to the long-dormant Extended Date Time
Format <https://www.loc.gov/standards/datetime/edtf.html> page at the
Library of Congress. More on this as we process the changes introduced.
- *Stylesheet issues* - we hope to set up a process for rapid updating of
stylesheets to support our mapping needs in the next month or two. Stay
tuned.
- *Nominatim status* - the DevSeed team who's been working on this
(Sanjay!) has just returned from a whirlwind world tour, so I'm optimistic
we'll see this in production in the next several weeks.
- *Inspector discussion* - as mentioned in a prior thread, we're getting
ready to start some improvements to the OHM Inspector
<https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1i1-I0fKMwSNODyZEkDVCyhIWlfMlal37dJzLcVDhovk/edit>.
If you have any thoughts on this or suggestions for sites we should look
at, please send them my way. Tim Watters was kind enough to share some
links to prior work from Susanna Ånäs at Wikimaps that were very helpful.
- *Open discussion* - we had a great time catching up with Richard Welty,
who discussed some of his work with Ghost Tracks and brainstormed some
ideas around a repository of historical aerial photography, as well as some
old Civil War maps. So much work to do!!
*Attendees*
Richard Welty, Tim Watters, Dan Rademacher, Jeff Meyer
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Regards,
Jeff
