Hi everybody -

Several people have weighed in unanimously that this might be a good path
for OHM to set up a formal organization.

Richard has set up an informal poll to gauge support for OHM adopting the
OSM-US Charter Project over on #openhistoricalmap at OSM-US's Slack channel
and on Discord, as well.

Some of the discussion there revolves around:
- Need for international participation - we don't want this to be perceived
as a US-only thing just because it's under the OSM-US organization
- Need for an advisory board - to include at least 1 international
participant

Please take the time to look at the link Richard sent out - I've also
pasted an excerpt here:

*OpenStreeMap US Charter Projects*
OpenStreetMap US is excited to announce a new way in which we support
projects and programs that align with our mission to support the
OpenStreetMap project in the United States through education, fostering
awareness, ensuring broad availability of data, continuous quality
improvement, and an active community: OpenStreeMap US Charter Projects.
With the OSM US Charter program, OpenStreetMap US actively encourages the
development of tools, programs and services that contribute to the growth
and sustainability of the OpenStreetMap platform in the United States, and
beyond. The Charter Project program provides a framework for long term
stewardship and is loosely based on the fiscal sponsorship model for
governance of non-profit organizations.
*Projects are given a home and the ability to fundraise through the
OpenStreetMap US organization, a 501(c)(3) charity incorporated in
Washington, DC. [italics mine - jm]*
*Apply to become a Charter Project*
The first round of applications is open now until the end of the year. If
you think your initiative may be a good fit to become an official OSM US
Charter Project, we would love to learn more and get to know you! A great
way to get started is by reading the Guidelines and the Template Agreement.
OSM US will host an information session at the virtual Connect 2020
conference Saturday October 31, 11am to 12pm ET, to answer your questions.
2020 applications will be accepted until December 31, 2020. Charter Project
Application

Thanks!
