[HOT-Announce] Vanuatu Mapping - Cyclone Pam Response

The Pacific Island nation of Vanuatu (Republic of Vanuatu) has been
devastated by Cyclone Pam which impacted the islands on Saturday,
March 14. HOT has been working to update maps of the islands and
currently has 3 top priority projects on our Tasking Manager.

HOT Volunteer Mapping Coordinator Pierre Béland writes:

"Following the landing of this cyclone as severe as the Haiyan
typhoon, many deaths are reported, and communications are cut. The
various international organizations are planning the response.

In this context, the basemap will be useful for a rapid response. The
population is disseminated over isolated islands. The objective is to
support the Red Cross logistic by localizing the population, tracing
roads, identify possible shelters and helicopter landing areas."
