[HOT] GIS South America

I'm currently researching the possibility of finding work (whether paid or
unpaid) within the conservation / development community in South America.
I'm intending on travelling to the region towards the end of 2013, and
would like to incorporate my GIS experience with my personal interest in
development issues.

I understand there are plenty of volunteering / gap year type projects
around however I'm finding it difficult to pin point where my skills would
best be suited.

If possible I'd like to ask for some advice on where or who I should be
looking to work for.
