Zongo would definitely be helpful to humanitarian organizations. When last I heard the IFRC was operating in part out of Zongo (this was weeks ago and may have changed). We recently sent some folks out with poster sized OSM printouts of Bangui / Zongo and were frustrated by the relative lack of detail in Zongo.

Since this Sunday morning, increasing numbers of CAR residents have been crossing the border to get more secured on the other side of the Ubangi river. Many of them arrived directly in Zongo, the neighbouring town on DRC side.
Its mapping is far less detailed than Bangui's, maybe we could set a task for mapping Zongo (if Bangui digitization process is achieved), HR Bing imagery is available for the area.

Thousands of refugees from Central African Republic had already been registered around Mobayi area (East of Gbadolite) for the last few months but in this area, there is not so much imagery available yet.

Séverin,

I have revised the text in both french and english. Instead of talking only of Mali, I have modified to talk of african countries in general.

Pierre

Objet : [HOT] Central African Republic: Bangui taken over today by the rebels

Hi all,

Bangui, the capital city of Central African Republic, has been taken over today by the Seleka rebels, three months after their coming from the northern part of the country. When they arrived close to Bangui in late December, we started a preparation, connecting with the humanitarian stakeholders there to identify both already affected towns as well as the ones prone to be, thanks to the EUROSHA volunteers that were deployed in Bangui (but obviously had to leave the country due this political crisis). Specific TM jobs have been created and partially completed, and an import process of the data provided by some stakeholders (eg UNICEF) have started.

I just updated the OSM wiki page for CAR<http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/WikiProject_Central_African_Republic> to coordinate the mapping goals as of today. Finishing both Bangui and secondary towns is one of them. Regarding the road network, I changed the former proposed typology by the one created for the Mali crisis. Indeed, the really impressive work made by the Hotties in charge of this activation apart, I really like this road typology that, IMHO, could be extended to the rest of Africa and maybe all the developing countries (what is the opinion from people experienced in other continents?). To involve more French speaking people, I translated it today. Pierre, might be good if you have a look on it to be sure I did not make any confusion.

Some existing data, surveyed in the field by various humanitarian organizations, will be imported soon, providing health centers, schools, and watsan objects.

Sincerely,

Severin
