Dear Hotties,
A bit of communication has begun on the OSM-US talk-list regarding the
severe weather incident(s) of the last 24 hours or so; last I heard is 6
tornado touchdowns mostly in the state of Oklahoma have caused major damage
and I've also been informed that the local American Red Cross has activated
but have not yet requested 'outside' assistance, i.e. the assistance of
other redcrossers in neighboring jurisdictions. However, this is fairly
typically and things will probably change rapidly.
I hereby would request that those with the ability to make contacts, etc. to
see if HOT can be of assistance; please do so. Damage Assessment via
Mapmill may be of great benefit to the ARC as the initial reports of the
size of one tornado path in Moore, Oklahoma may make for a lengthy and
difficult on the ground assessment. I understand the logistics of getting
imagery, etc. for Mapmill so I would not be disappointed if that
doesn't/can't happen, but as I'm sure ARC is already preparing to conduct
whatever damage assessment they can; even a remote mapping session for roads
and residential landuse would help prepare for aid workers/damage assessment
teams to plan their field work.
Thank you,
